A-Frame #1 is a luxury cabin at Stardust Big Bend, five minutes from the entrance to Big Bend National Park in Terlingua, Texas. Its full-glass gable frames the Chisos Mountains, and a wrap-around deck with a fire pit opens onto some of the darkest skies in the country. Sleeps 4 (optional 5th for a charge). Near the property entrance and beside our giant saguaro, it's a short walk to our shared clubhouse (pool table, air hockey, arcades), with on-site sauna, EV charging and guest laundry.
The A-Frame has a bedroom, a living room, a full kitchen, and a full bathroom, and comfortably sleeps 4. We can add a floor mattress for a 5th guest for an extra charge (it will be tight — please message us after booking).
The bedroom has a queen bed with a very comfortable mattress, soft and firm pillows, and a reading light. There's a lounge chair in the corner and a small closet with hangers, a luggage rack, an iron and board, and a full-length mirror. The front wall is all glass, opening onto an unparalleled view of the majestic Chisos Mountains.
The living room has a West Elm sleeper sofa that converts to a queen, a coffee table with books and trail maps, and two armchairs. A smart TV is loaded with Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, ESPN and more, and a small dining table for two doubles as a remote-work desk.
The full kitchen has a cooktop, microwave, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, toaster, air fryer/toaster oven, electric kettle, and a pour-over coffee maker — plus all the pots, pans, utensils, and cutlery you'll need.
The bathroom has a walk-in shower, a marble vanity, and a wall-mounted toilet, stocked with a hair dryer, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand soap, and lotion.
Outside, a deck wraps three sides of the cabin. Under a covered pergola — with adjustable louvers and a pull-down sun screen — you'll find a hammock and a sofa dining set. Two Adirondack chairs face the Chisos, and a fire pit with bench seating is made for cool desert evenings. A charcoal BBQ grill sits beside the cabin (utensils, lighter, and fluid provided).
Shared with all guests: a large clubhouse with a professional pool table, air hockey, foosball, an arcade with thousands of retro games, darts, and board games — a great way to unwind after the trails, and a lifesaver for keeping kids entertained. There's also on-site guest laundry (washer, dryer, and detergent provided). There is a barrel sauna that you can use dry or wet (steam). Other than the many health benefits of using a sauna, it can help your sore muscles relax after a hard day of hiking.
A couple of things that set us apart: level-2 EV chargers for Tesla (NACS) and non-Tesla (J1772) vehicles ($30/night to use), and whole-property backup Generac generators. Outages can hit this area a few times a month and we're one of very few rentals with backup power — which matters when Big Bend temperatures swing to the extremes.
You'll get a door code for your cabin. You're welcome to the entire A-Frame, your own patio and fire pit, and the shared clubhouse. Please stay on the walkways and avoid other cabins so everyone keeps their privacy.
Please specify the correct number of people when booking. Up to 4 people are included in the listing cost and will be comfortable in the space. If you want to bring a 5th person, please be aware that you will be very tight. There is a $35 charge for the 5th person per night. We will provide a floor mattress. If we discover you brought extra people (through staff reports or cameras), we will charge $70 per person per night.
Pets are not allowed. If we do find out you brought a pet (which we almost always do when guests try to break the rules), there will be $199 extra cleaning fee and any damage by the pet will also be charged to your card.
Also, please review the pictures carefully. We have 12 cabins. All the A-frames have similar interiors and comparable views outside. We use the pictures interchangeably between the A-frames. Most of the exterior pictures are labeled showing the A-Frame they were taken at, and we also have a picture showing the aerial view of the property, showing the location and proximity of each cabin relative to others.
Well, we are in the desert. There is not much of a neighborhood as we have vast empty spaces around us, yet close to the park and restaurants. The Ghost Town is 3 mins away, Big Bend National Park is 5 mins away, and Lajitas is 15 mins away. There are very few properties nearby. The back side of our property has Cigar Mountain, there is only one vacation rental on it that is visible from the property. Other than that, you have unrestricted views of Big Bend National Park, the Chisos Mountains, Santa Elena Canyon, and other nearby mountains.
A car is essential to get around. Some businesses in town offer jeep rentals for your off-roading adventures
Check-in is at 4 PM and checkout is at 10 AM but we are often able to accommodate early check-in/late checkout requests.
Please keep the brightness of the lights to a minimum so you and other guests can enjoy the night sky. If the lights are on inside then the curtain must be drawn (on the sliding patio door and bedroom window) and the blind pulled down on the kitchen door.
Please stay on the walkways and don't trespass on neighboring properties. You cannot drive your car up to your cabin, you must park in the designated parking areas. Taking the car to your cabin will damage the sensitive desert landscape. A $500 fine will be assessed if we see your car parked next to your cabin. The designated parking areas are a short walk away from all cabins. Luggage carts are provided in the parking areas. Please return the carts to the parking area after offloading your luggage.
Don't leave the fire unattended in the firepit. Put the last log one hour before you want to go inside. After 20 mins you can put the mesh lid to quickly fetch something. After about one hour you can put the steel lid on the pit and the fire will die by itself. DO NOT USE WATER to put out the fire. It will damage and warp the metal.
No, smoking or vaping is allowed in the cabin. If we detect the smell of smoke or other evidence of smoking in the cabin, a $500 cleaning fee will be charged.
