Good to Know
Everything you need for a smooth stay. Don’t see your question? Reply to your confirmation email (preferred) or call us at (432) 897-0990.
Our standard check-in time is 4 PM, but we're often able to accommodate early check-in requests. Please reply to your confirmation email and let us know if you'll be arriving early — we'll try our best to have it ready for you.
It's self check-in. Your door code and any last-minute arrival notes are sent by text and email the morning of your check-in day — no need to meet anyone on arrival. The door code is usually set to the last four digits of your phone number.
Often, yes — we're frequently able to accommodate early check-in. Just reply to your confirmation email and let us know if you'll be arriving early. We can't promise, but we'll try our best.
Yes — we’re on Highway 170 (23121 FM 170, Terlingua, TX 79852) with no off-road driving required. Cell service is good at the property, but it can be patchy to non-existent elsewhere in the area — so we recommend downloading “offline” maps before you arrive: Google Maps instructions · Apple Maps instructions.
Check-out is by 10:00 AM.
Yes — we're often able to accommodate late check-outs. If you need one, please let us know as soon as possible and we'll try to accommodate it. We can't promise, but we'll try our best.
Nothing major. If you used any games, please put the cards and pieces back in their boxes. Starting the dishwasher is appreciated but optional — the pods are under the sink. Any leftover food can be left behind; our housekeeping staff will use it or donate it. Otherwise, just lock up and head out.
Yes — fully stocked with cooking oil, about 10 commonly used spices, coffee, a selection of teas, creamer, and sugar, plus all the pots, pans, silverware, flatware, toaster, air fryer/oven, and dishwasher you'll need.
It's an induction cooktop, so it only heats when an induction-compatible pot or pan is on it — your own non-induction cookware may not work. If the controls are locked, hold the lock icon for 3 seconds to unlock, tap to select the burner you're using, then use the +/- buttons to set the temperature.
The pods are under the sink. Load a pod, choose a cycle, press start, and close the door within about 4 seconds. A solid red light on the floor means it's running; a flashing light means it isn't — just try again. If the controls won't change, hold the On/Off button for 4 seconds to reset (it takes a couple of minutes). There's also a third silverware rack on top.
Yes — our water comes from the Study Butte Water Supply Corporation and is treated to Texas municipal standards, so it's safe to drink. You're welcome to bring bottled water if you prefer.
Yes — there are shared BBQ grills spread around the property; use any nearby one that's free. We provide grilling utensils, a lighter, and lighter fluid — just bring your own charcoal. Please clean the grill after use, and put the hot coals in the bucket at its base. Never leave hot coals unattended.
Just your groceries — and charcoal if you plan to grill. Everything else is in the cabin.
Most cabins have a smart TV with apps like YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, and ESPN pre-loaded — you'll sign in with your own accounts. There's no cable or satellite, and please note the Container Home does not have a TV.
Yes — free guest laundry is available, with detergent provided. Handy for longer stays or after a dusty day in the desert.
It's the same door code as your cabin — usually the last four digits of your phone number.
No — guest laundry is free, including detergent.
Yes — every cabin has a wrap-around deck with its own firepit, perfect for evenings under the dark Big Bend sky.
We usually have firewood in stock for $12 per bundle. If we happen to be out, you can pick some up at the Cottonwood General Store. You're also welcome to bring your own.
Brewster County is almost always under a burn ban, but the type of firepits we provide are exempt from it — so you're welcome to use them. Please use good judgment: we sometimes get very high winds that send embers flying, which is a fire hazard, so we ask that you not use the firepit in those conditions. Whenever you use it, never leave it unattended, and before you leave make sure the fire is fully out and the lid is on.
It's the same code as your cabin door. The clubhouse is for Stardust guests only, so please don't open the door for anyone not staying with you, and lock up when you leave.
It's accessible 24/7.
A pool table, air hockey, darts, foosball, an arcade with thousands of classic games, and board games — plus giant Jenga outside. It's free for all Stardust guests.
It's a shared space with visible interior cameras for safety and loss prevention. Please don't set food or drinks on the pool or air-hockey tables (damage can be costly), limit pool-table games to about 20 minutes if others are waiting, and return all game pieces to their boxes when you're done.
Fresh all-white linens and towels; bath amenities (shampoo, conditioner, body soap); a full, stocked kitchen; mini-split AC and heat; 200+ Mbps fiber WiFi; and a smart TV with streaming apps (in all cabins except the Container Home). Every cabin is also backed up by a generator, so outages won't interrupt your stay.
Yes — on-site EV chargers (Tesla NACS and J1772) are available for $30/night. You can add it when you book.
Flies and moths are part of the desert, so please keep the doors closed. If a few do get in, there's an electric fly swatter and a blue-light bug zapper in the corner cabinet.
Unfortunately, we don’t allow pets. Big Bend National Park also doesn’t allow pets on its trails or the river (park pet policy), so they’re limited in the area regardless. We’d love to host you without the pets — and there are some local pet sitters who offer their services at very reasonable rates. Just ask and we’re happy to refer you.
Gas is pricey in Terlingua, so we recommend filling up in Fort Stockton or Marathon before you arrive. If you need fuel while you're here, Panther Junction inside the park (near the east entrance) is often 50–75¢ a gallon cheaper than Terlingua.
It’s natural desert habitat, but encounters are rare — we see maybe one or two snakes a year on the property, and they’d rather avoid you than meet you. Report any sightings and they’ll usually move on. Millipedes are harmless; centipedes can give a painful bite. You might also spot a sun spider — despite looking like a scorpion, they’re non-venomous. When in doubt, don’t handle any critter, and never assume a snake is non-venomous unless you’re an expert.
Our standard policy: full refund if you cancel 30+ days before check-in, 50% refund if you cancel 15–30 days before, and no refund within 14 days of check-in. The exact refund deadlines for your dates are shown at checkout and in your confirmation email.
Reply to your confirmation email, or send an email to info [at] stardustbigbend [dot] com, and we’ll take care of it.
Often, yes — message us and we'll help. Date changes are subject to availability and any difference in nightly rates. Please note that the same deadlines as cancellation (see above) apply to a change as well — once you're past the cancellation deadline, we're not able to give you a credit toward a future reservation.
We’re happy to help you plan your stay.
